Is Anyone Else Worried by This?

The Register reports a plan by the UK Government to record all phone calls, text messages, instant messages, e-mails and web sites visited in a giant database and store those details for two years!

Before now, they’ve had to ask telephone providers and web companies for permission. If this plan goes ahead, they won’t.

There are a number of problems with this :

1.It’s definitely, without a shadow of a doubt, a Big Brother mentality.
2.What business is it of the Government if I text my wife and tell her I’ll be late home for tea?
3.The Government doesn’t have a good track record with storing data.

I don’t care if they can answer those concerns. It’s not a good idea to store my contact with the outside world. End of story. I doubt there’s anything that can be done about it either.
